I guess one would expect me to write something meaningful within the pages of this blog. However, I cannot promise that everything that I write will be deep, or even reasonable. Just my opinion!
I cannot believe that we have only watched one (1) movie in the past 5 weeks of Art of Film. That film happens to be "Citizen Kane". Now, I can't say that I've suddenly "developed a new taste for black and white film" or anything artsy like that. However, I did like it. I find it amazing that a man (Welles) can write so eloquently behind the camera and really deliver the emotion in front of the camera. In a way, Mr. K., you have opened my eyes to a new genre of film. That genre of film just happens to represent a time period:
Before the 1990s! (a.k.a before I was born)
Now to turn the subject. In particular there is a movie that has caught my eye in the commercials lately. "The Duchess" staring Keira Knightley looks like another visually stunning "blast from the past". To let you in on what looks to be a fantastic movie, I've included a link to the trailer in True High Definition (this may cause your computer to load it at a slower rate- but trust me, it looks superb!)

I agree Ian! Citizen Kane also didn't make me suddenly like older movies, but it was a good movie.
(Wait. We have to comment on 3 ppls blogs right? Cause thats what I'm doing haha.)
I also agree with the notion of good movie but no special spice that makes me want to investigate more black and white films. good post ian !
that was a great post! i agree with you, it was cool how wells was both a director and actor in this movie and did both jobs very well. yeah! the duchess does look like a good movie. we should take a class field trip haha
I can't say I was motivated by Citizen Kane to watch older movies. It did however make me appreciate the movies we have now.
I already appreciate older movies. Citizen Kane was just another reason why black and white films should not be overlooked.
Is it just me, or does Keira Knightley play too many roles that has to due with the far off past.
Well done Ian! Your so right, it takes a bit to appreciate black and white films. I guess I like them cause of how much a like black and white photography but yeah it takes a while to get used to them! Love your post :)
At least you are honest about telling only what you believe to be true. I would also say that before I would have overlooked black and white films but now I simply read the back and make a decision based on the story line not the color. But I would still love to watch more contempory movies in Art of Film. It seems like we only watch old films but its a film class and no where does it say that we have to watch black and white ones. I wish we could have a vote on different movies to watch.
Anyways that movie with Kiera Knightly looks really good. Usually I shy away from that time period but recently have began to watch them and like them. For instance Pride and Prejudice was really good or Becoming Jane was good as well. Hopefully the movie is as good as the trailer. I will write more on it once I see it. Until then...
